Yesterday I went for a lovely walk around Ashurst in the New Forest. The weather was just about perfect for getting up close and personal with nature. We spent the day rating sticks, turning what might seem like a simple activity into a delightful treasure hunt, and I’m pleased to say we saw some wonderful sticks adorned with unique textures and colors. Highlights included a magnificent tree that I think had been struck by lightning, its stark white scars contrasting dramatically with the charred middle of the trunk that turned black, and a fallen tree that had ripped up its root structure, standing like a grand wall in the middle of the woods, creating a natural fort that invited us to explore. We started our adventure as we finished, just over the bridge from the train station at the Happy Cheese, a charming pub that not only pulls a good Guinness but also serves an amazing Chip Shop Platter, complete with crispy fish and crunchy triple cooked chips that are simply irresistible. Not sponsored, just a fan 🙂
